Evolução e Ateísmo

Rise of Planet of Apes1 cópia

She´s all alone
Staring at the rain

Life seems just the same
Afraid of what may come
When you come undone
Staring at the rain

She´s waiting for the sun
Some say that´s she´s dumb
Clouds that may reveal in time
Her life time silver linings

She´s all anone
and she keeps staring at the rain
She´s wonder about the end
What will still remains?

When all is said and done
Notice that she´s not the only one
Waiting for some sunshine
That may come in time

When she´s staring at the rain

The power of words…and its misterpretations.

These days I´ve been surprised by the number of people in my country despise  people simply by the fact they calim to be atheists.  I ´ve aways been surprised by the fact that all these “theists” are strongly emerged into these “godless” issues which they openly condemn with a vigorous conviction.

Then I wonder about  this quote from Matrix Revolution´s character  Rama-Kandra at the very beginning of the movie:

Neo: I just have never…

Rama-Kandra: Heard a program speak of love?

Neo: It’s a… human emotion.

Rama-Kandra: No, it is a word. What matters is the connection the word implies. I see that you are in love. Can you tell me what you would give to hold on to that connection?

Neo: Anything.

Rama-Kandra: Then perhaps the reason you’re here is not so different from the reason I’m here.

Then I realize that “words are just words” and “what matters is the connection the word implies”.  When Neo answers that love is a “human emotion” he´s just emphasizing that this particular word evokes a strong emotion when he listens to it or think about it. This is true. Words stabilish connections on our minds, provoking reactions so strong that sometimes a person can die simply for listening to a specific word.

It seems to me that the word “atheist” establishes an immediate connection when spoken. For the majority of humans this word is connected with “human emotions” like disgust, hatred, scandals, immorality and many other adjectives.

Hatred towards atheism is not a new development In the old testament on the  Psalm 14:1, supposedly written by David around 1000 B.C., there is a mention about atheists : “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.”

“Fool” was maybe one of the first and one of the most soft way to label atheists.

Recent statistics show an increasing number of people claiming to be atheists, up to 10 percent of people worldwide.

Since atheism is a statement of nonbelief. Many people erroneously think that atheism is the claim that god does not exist, when this isn´t  exactly the case. Atheism is a lack of belief, not a statement that the person believes there is no god. This may seem like a subtle distinction, but it is a large difference. Gnosticism is a statement of knowledge. If gnosticsm is paired with atheism, it is a positive statement that the person does not believe in god, and does believe that they have enough evidence that giod does not exist. At that point, it is a claim that must be defnded. Until that moment, atheism is a rejection of a claim, not a claim in and of itself.

Brave new nightmare world…

Maybe one of the most elaborate, intelligent, creative and disturbed videoclip in history is Metallica´s All Nighytmare Long” music video. The video was directed by Robert Schober and it was relased in December 7, 2008 and surprised the fans ´cause differently from the other video for a “Death Magnetic” album song (The day that never comes) it doesn´t feature the band. The video starts with an apparently old Soviet documentary video based on the historical events concerning Tunguska 1908 explosion. Following the Tunguska´s events and research about the aftermath, Soviet scientists would have discovered some king of “alien spore” which has the incredible capacity to reanimate dead tissues. After decades of experiments depicted on the video, after the end of II World War a Soviet/American war eclodes. After being heavily attacked with nuclear bombs, just like Hiroshima, the USSR adapts the spore as a bioweapon and scatters them from balloons in a preemptive strike against the Americans. Since the spore falls on American soil a “zombie apocalypse” raises before an astonished popollation….
When you look at the experiments on the video, it´s impossible not to remember of a real Soviet experimental video, and quite famous also, titled :EXPERIMENTS IN THE REVIVAL OR ORGANISMS.
That´s because even after Kirk Hammett lied about it´s origin trying to produce a hype about the video, claiming to have bought it from a fan for $5 in Russia 20 years ago, the obvious attempt to make the video look like EXPERIMENTS IN THE REVIVAL OR ORGANISMS with some shots specifically made to look like excerpts of this old Russian documentary gave the video a little more credibility.
In an interview, James Hetfield commented on the song’s lyrical meaning:
“It was an attempt to get back to the H. P. Lovecraft mythos with Thing that Should Not Be, Call of Ktulu. This was about the Hounds of Tindalos, which was another crazy mindfuck about these wolves that hunt through their nightmares and the only way you can get away from them is stay within angles . You can’t even escape through sleep.
But what is amazing and also scary about this Metallica video and the obvious parallel with the experimental documentary it´s the fact that the experiments depicted on the Russian video are REAL and they show something that if developed can change the concept of life it self….

Motorhead – Rock in Rio 2011

The entire show

Another Way to Die.

Against war on every level but supportive of the soldiers on every level.(Stripping the fear to be “indestructible”)

Music has been used to pump soldiers up before and during battle for rather a long time now. War drums, bagpipes, marching bands, etc, and now ipods. As for them being standard issue for soldiers, perhaps it would be more appropriate to be standard issue for units of soldiers, as I imagine the shared experience of a track plays as large a role in the psychology discussed in the OP as the individual soldier’s ‘appreciation’ of it.

Motivational music has been used by the military for centuries, but in modern wars, soldiers are bringing their own playlists., as it was shown on Michael Moore’s “Farenheit 9/11″, during the final section where they followed soldiers in the Middle East, there was that memorable part when the soldier with the scary eyes was talking about how they liked to play the song “Fire Water Burn”  while going out in the tank because of the  line “We don’t need no water let the motherfucker burn, burn motherfucker, burn”!

Scary think but I can understand where they’re coming from. It’s the same as having an exercise playlist on your ipod for the gym or whatever, just not nearly as stressful situations.

I was watching this documentary about Disturbed when I saw this part where they receive a huge homage from their fans among the troops in Iraq. In fact, the band´s attitude is amazing while they´re able to separate politics from battle itself. It may seem contradictory for many who watch this scene when David Drainman says :

“We are in principle against war on every level, but we are so in principle supportive of the soldiers on every level.”

There’s some fascinating psychology reaction  in this, and even  neuroscientists speculate that the combination of the group, a stressful situation, and very specific tracks, or types of music, combine to produce such a powerful motivational and even transformative effect.

“It´s meant to feel strong and powerful, and INDESTRUCTIBLE”

You can see how sincere and spontaneously the soldiers are when they mentionthe effects of the music from Disturbed on platoon´s moral at the desert in Iraq.

Metal music is great to listen under difficult circuntances cause it´s uncomparable to releive stress and very empowering on battlefield. That´s the the most basic reason why Metal is the music has been used to pump soldiers up before and during battle recently. Metal is the 21th century  marching battle song for all soldiers into the genre. Metal bands are the most common on soldiers ipods. As for them being standard issue for soldiers, perhaps it would be more appropriate to be standard issue for batallions of soldiers. As I imagine the shared experience of a track plays as large a role in their  psyche ans that´s the reason why soldier’s ‘appreciation for Metal is so ofeten.

Who´s the worst influence? God or Marylin Manson?

Is Marilyn Manson a bad influence over the youth of today? A lot of evangelicals in US and all around the world would answer YES! To them marylin isn NOT mere music, and somehing more evil and  more sinister is involved with him.

One thing for sure is that  Manson proclaims a very serious message indeed. But what a lot o people  miss is the fact that Manson  is a “total religious” person. This article will examine some of the belief’s that Manson adheres . It might be appropriate to mention here that some Goth‘s deny that Manson is Gothic himself. Be that as it may, many Goth‘s dofollow him, and Manson himself has not objected to the term being applied to him and his band, at various periods throughout his musical career:

Marilyn Manson (real name Brian Warner) is a self-confessed Satanist in the First Church of Satan started by Anton Lavey (now deceased), in 1966 in, San Francisco. Lavey’s branch of Satanism stands for just about everything the opposite of what Christianity is, and this comes out again, and again in Manson’s words and stage shows. One of La Vey’s claim to fame is that he is the author of the book The Satanic Bible. Surprisingly though, La Vey’s brand of Satanism declares that it does not believe in Satan, nor God, as personal beings, as such (although a few individual’s in the movement may view Satan and God differently). Rather, La Vey taught that Satan stood for a symbol of man’s darker carnal nature and believed that this nature should be harnessed and encouraged to grow. To La Vey, Christianity is an establishment of great bondage which seeks to enslave humanity into another system. These philosophies and religious declarations come out again and again in Manson’s words and actions. For example, in an interview in 1995, Manson is asked:

“Do you believe in the existence of Satan as an entity?” Manson replies: “I think Satan is a word that you can use to describe your animalistic side if, as a whole, everyone’s animalistic nature – I guess Satan exists in that sense – that part of everyone’s personality. I don’t believe in it as a “being”. It’s a word that represents rebellion, represents Man, represents a defiance towards society and God and the things that are forced upon us and are considered to be normal and acceptable.” (An Interview with Marilyn Manson at the Capitol Ballroom, Washington, D.C., November 9, 1995).

Marilyn Manson has been accused of many things in his life . From corrupting the youth of America to  rubbing his crotch on the heads of security guards at concerts. and even being contributed to a friend’s death.

Maria St. John filed a wrongful death suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, accusing the rocker of supplying her daughter Jennifer Syme — girlfriend of actor Keanu Reeves — with cocaine and encouraging her to drive while inebriated.

The suit claims that Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, hosted a social gathering at his residence on the evening of April 1, 2001, where Syme, who was 28, consumed “various quantities of an illegal controlled substance” allegedly given to her by Manson. Shortly before dawn, another attendee at the party gave her a lift back to her house, where she got into her 1999 Jeep Cherokee with the intent of returning to Manson’s home, the suit alleges.

“Words cannot express the pain that I feel over the loss of Jennifer Syme’s life,” Manson said in a statement released Wednesday (April 3). “After Jennifer was sent home safely with a designated driver, she later got behind the wheel of her own car for reasons known only to her. Her death is sad and tragic.”

While driving north on Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood, Syme crashed into three parked cars on the east side of the street and was thrown from her vehicle. She died at the scene in the early hours of April 2. The investigation determined that she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The suit claims Manson was negligent in “instructing [Syme] to operate a motor vehicle in her incapacitated condition.”

Los Angeles police found two rolled-up dollar bills containing a white, powdery substance in the wreck of the car, as well as two bottles of prescription drugs: the muscle relaxant cyclobenzaprine and the anticonvulsant clonazepam. (Clonazepam carries a warning to use caution when driving.) St. John told the police that her daughter had been treated for back pain from a car crash a few days before her death, as well as for depression stemming from the death of her daughter with Reeves, Ava Archer Syme-Reeves. The child was stillborn in the eighth month of pregnancy in late December, 1999.

While the couple had broken up shortly after the birth, Reeves told investigators that they were back together. He acted as a pallbearer at Symes’ funeral, as did Dave Navarro and film director David Lynch, with whom she had once worked as an assistant. (Lynch gave her a bit part as “junkie girl” in “Lost Highway” and dedicated “Mulholland Drive” to her in the closing credits.) Though some obituaries list Syme as a former assistant to Manson, his reps insist that she was never at any time employed by the rocker.

The 1999 Columbine massacre blame for the shootings was directed on a number of metal or ‘dark music’ bands such as KMFDM and Rammstein. But the majority of that blame was directed at Marilyn Manson and his eponymous band. After being linked by news outlets and pundits with sensationalist headlines such as “Killers Worshipped Rock Freak Manson” and “Devil-Worshipping Maniac Told Kids To Kill,” many came to believe that Manson’s music and imagery were, indeed, Harris and Klebold’s sole motivation, despite later reports that the two were not fans.

In the immediate aftermath, the band canceled the remaining North American dates of their Rock is Dead Tour out of respect for the victims, while steadfastly maintaining that music, movies, books or video games were not to blame. Manson stated:
“     The [news] media has unfairly scapegoated the music industry and so-called Goth kids and has speculated, with no basis in truth, that artists like myself are in some way to blame. This tragedy was a product of ignorance, hatred and an access to guns. I hope the [news] media’s irresponsible finger-pointing doesn’t create more discrimination against kids who look different.     ”

On May 1, 1999, the embattled musician expanded his rebuttal to the accusations leveled at him and his band in his Rolling Stone magazine op-ed piece, “Columbine: Whose Fault Is It?” He castigated the ensuing hysteria and moral panic and what he saw as the irresponsibly-handled news media coverage; he chastized America’s habit of hanging blame on scapegoats to escape responsibility. Columbine and America’s fixation on a culture of guns, blame, and ‘celebrity by death’ was further explored in the group’s 2000 album Holy Wood.

In 2002 Manson appeared in Michael Moore’s documentary, Bowling for Columbine; his appearance was filmed during the band’s first show in Denver since the shooting. When Moore asked what he would have said to the students at Columbine, he replied:

“I wouldn’t say a single word. I would listen to what they have to say, and that’s what no one did.”

The fact is that most of  North American High Schools that supposedly would have the  moral obligation to reduce the bullying praticed inside its walls, (and tremendously fail on this matter) are based on Evangelical standarts. All students are tought to respect God and he Country but they aren´t taught to treat each other as they would like to be treated themselves.

Bullying is abusive behavior and the victims become socially rejected and isolated.

Manson´s answer to Michael Moore couldn´t be more lucid and coherent. In fact a simple support from anybody could have made a HUGE difference concerning this matter…..

What´s more intriguing about these “bible-bashers” that run riots on Manson´s shows, are aways trying to shove down people´s throats that the Blible is the best influence ever in the world.

It sounds very “American Way” ´cause the Chinese government clearly doesn´t think this way.

In May 17th, 2007, Hong Kong’s Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority (TELA) has received over 800 complaints about the Bible. Campaigners are hoping to have the “Holy Book” reclassified as “indecent”, which would mean only those over 18 could buy it and it would need to be sealed in a wrapper with a statutory warning notice.

The campaign seems to have been started when an article in a student newspaper asking readers if they had ever fantasised about incest or bestiality was deemed “indecent” by the Obscene Articles Tribunal. A website, Truth Bible, was set up detailing the various acts of violence and pornography contained in “God’s Perfect Message” to the World, as well as its numerous contradictions, absurdities, failed prophecies, inaccuracies and plagiarisms. The website is in Chinese, but has a disclaimer in English in its masthead:

As the Hong Kong government Minister of the Interior said at the time: “The Government can’t be concerned any longer with outmoded penological theories.”

Hong Kong residents seeking to have the postal authorities reclassify the Bible as “indecent” due to its sexual and violent content prompted the complaints such scenes as:

A woman nails a man’s head to the ground with a tent peg while he sleeps

A father turns his virgin daughter over to a mob who rapes her to death

The body of a woman is cut up by her family and pieces

Numerous scenes of mass murder and rape

Infanticide on God’s orders

Sex slaves

Mass murder of members of other religions

Murder of nonbelievers

Judicial killing of people who work on the Sabbath

Wholesale destruction of cities

Slavery

Human sacrifice

If the ban had passed at the time, the Bible would have to be sold with adult warning labels and only offered in plain brown wrappers in every part of the Chinese territory.

The “American Way of Life” was aways menaced by Marylin Manson´s music as many other musicians through out many decades over this industry. Why? Because they got a huge feedback from their fans. People tired of christian culture lies and wanting something fresh and new. Something that allows them to think differently. Something to break them free from all the American hypocrit-pseudo-christian way of life….

The boy that you loved is the man that you fear.

Only the strong will survive

Since early ages mankind is obssessed with the end of its civilization. Since we started to hide inside caves a lot of us used to think that unexplained phenomenas like eartquakes, tornados, thurderstorms and other natural catastrophes could put an end to “our” world.

Since I was a kid I hear stories about the so-called “Apocalypse” ! I was more evident when I was watching movies and TV at my early days.

Apocalyptic fiction is a sub-genre of science fiction that is concerned with the end of civilization due to a potentially existential catastrophe such as nuclear warfare, pandemic, extraterrestrial attack, impact event, cybernetic revolt, Technological Singularity, Dysgenics, supernatural phenomena, Divine judgement, Ecological disaster, resource depletion or some other general disaster. Post-apocalyptic fiction is set in a world or civilization after such a disaster. The time frame may be immediately after the catastrophe, focusing on the travails or psychology of survivors, or considerably later, often including the theme that the existence of pre-catastrophe civilization has been forgotten (or mythologized). Post-apocalyptic stories often take place in an non-technological future world  or a world where only scattered elements of technology remain.

After World War II, especially after Hiroshima, the possibility of a global annihilation by nuclear weapons entered the public consciousness. A subgenre of japanese monsters (nuclear mutants) coming out of radiation poped-up during the 50´s & the 60´s. as an evident catharsis for the japonese people to deal with the two bombs lauched in 45.

n fact apocalyptic novels have existed at least since the first quarter of the 19th century, when Mary Shelley’s The Last Man was published. Additionally, the subgenres draw on a body of apocalyptic literature, tropes, and interpretations that are millennia old.

But the fear of annihilation wasn´t on books or movies anymore. It was real! Especially for the Japonese people. Maybe for subconcious reasons the country that has put more efforts in developing the more advanced mechano-humanoids (robots) is the same country who saw the effects of a nuclear bomb over human flesh.  Japanese are so advanced into robotic technology that if another nuclear bomb is going to be lauched over its territory, they´ll have of support from their metallic skin friends. Like this little pal below on the video:

ASIMO would surive after a nuclear attack in Japan. This is a fact. This is the 221th century first decade reality, not sci-fi or dream, it´s the real thing in front of our eyes.

But much more than our wildest dreams from a recent past, the idea of a  robot being  able to learn how to create spare parts for itself is becoming reality as you can see on this video above. Very soon  robots will be able to travel in cosmos – they don’t need oxygen. Robots will be able to survive after a nuclear attack during combat. So it is obvious that someday robots will be better humans.

The blockbuster Terminator franchise deals with this idea since the 80´s when the former mister universe” Scharza” started to shape his career playing the role of a ….robot. A Robot that not only was manufactured by other robots but a robot that can survive a nuclear attack.

This issue has been explored by a number of novels and movies but maybe the most amazing and terrifing at the same timeis the Matrix saga.

The unconscious fear of annihilation and more than this, the fear lose the status of supreme specie on the top of the food chain is depicted in a very realistic way.

The more shocking and detailed portrait of this fight for survival between humans and a superior race is shown not on the trology but on the nine animated stort films based on the saga called “The Animatrix”, especially on story´s prequel “The Second Renaissance”.
The Second Renaissance is a two-part film written and directed by Mahiro Maedaand shows the origins of the Matrix and the human/machine war.
The plot is simple but very realistic. In the late 21st century, wherein the vast human population is supported by a multitude of artificially intelligent machines (ASIMO?)and  the machines are built in humanoid form and seem to be treated as slaves, employed in a variety of positions ranging from domestic servants to laborers on massive construction projects.

With increasing numbers of people released from all labor, the human population has become lazy, arrogant, and corrupt. Despite this, the machines were content with serving humanity and, as the narrator states, “for a time, it was good”, until  the relationship between humans and machines changed in the year of 2090, when a domestic android kills the owner, his pets, and a mechanic instructed to deactivate the robot. This murder is the first incident of an artificially intelligent machine killing a human. B1-66ER is the name of the android. He´´s taken to a human court and then destroyed. Across the industrialized world, mass civil disturbances erupt when robots and their human sympathizers rise in protest. World leaders fear a robot rebellion, and governments across the planet initiate a major program to destroy all humanoid machines.
Some robots escape destruction when humans, in their greed, still want the robots to work and produce things for them. The machine population is exiled, and they create their own nation in the Middle East, named Zero One (or “01″, the numerals used in binary notation). But once the machines establish their own industrial base they start to produce efficient consumer products, and before long, Zero One’s consistent export of cheap, reliable, mass-produced goods begin to undercut the global economy.

The United Nations Security Council calls an emergency economic summit at UN headquarters approving of a global economic blockade of Zero One and they also declare  war over  the “Machine Empire”.

United Nations aircraft unleashing a sustained nuclear bombardment on Zero One. The nuclear carpet bombing devastates the machine city, but is unsuccessful in destroying many elements of the mechanical population, due to the simple fact that robots survive radiation The machines retaliate by unleashing their armies to conquer neighboring human countries, triggering a world war between the United Nations and Zero One.
At a summit of political and military leaders from around the world, unanimous approval is given to a plan code-named “Operation Dark Storm”, which aims to cut the machines off from the sun, their primary energy source. The plan is executed in 2095, with high altitude bombers dispersing sky-darkening nanomachines into the air, while the human armies simultaneously launch a ground offensive against the machine forces. The plan is initially successful, although many of the human nations’ long-range  high-tech weapons supported by electromagnetic artillery fire.

After the destruction of original man-made robots (bye bye ASIMO) legions of “dehumanized” machines which are no longer in humanoid form but now are  insectoid or cephalopod-like Sentinels and others of the Matrix films, overrun the human armies. This coincides with the destruction of original man-made robots at the hands of human forces and, as a result, the further dehumanization of the rapidly emerging machine collective. As the machine armies swarm across the human defenses, the United Nations, in desperation, fires nuclear missiles directly at the machine armies, vaporizing their own troops in the process.

The UN Security Council calls a global summit at U.N. headquarters to sign an armistice and end the war. Zero One’s machine ambassador signs the peace treaty with a barcode, in which the humans agree to surrender their remaining territories to the machines. “Your flesh is a relic, a mere vessel. Hand over your flesh and a new world awaits you. We demand it” are the only words the machine utters before it detonates a nuclear bomb in the meeting chamber, killing most of the planet’s leaders and destroying New York City, one of the few remaining human settlements. In 2102, the machines crush the leaderless remnants of the human armies, and the war ends.

Insanity? Sci-fi? Entertainment? Maybe all alternatives are correct but fact is that humanity has an enourmous and unconscious fear of being vanished from the face of this planet before the expansion of the sun do it on some millions of years in the future.

Someday we WILL be annihilated by sun. Someday the world will go away. To me it only makes our life more important. The effects of our actions become moe important and it makes every second we live more valuable and more worth living because it´s UNIQUE.
